Alabama Constitution Section 209 Property rights of females property of wife not liable for debts etc of husband

Here is the text of Section 209 of the Alabama Constitution:

Section 209 – Property rights of females; property of wife not liable for debts, etc., of husband.

The real and personal property of any female in this state, acquired before marriage, and all property, real and personal, to which she may afterwards become entitled by gift, grant, inheritance, or devise, shall, so long as she may remain a resident of this state, be and remain the separate estate and property of such female, and shall not be liable for the debts or liabilities of the husband, and may be devised or bequeathed by her the same as if she were a feme sole.

Summary:

A woman's property acquired before marriage or later acquired by gift, inheritance, grant, or will remains her separate property.

Such property is not liable for the husband’s debts.

She has the right to bequeath or devise it as if she were unmarried.
