Alabama Constitution Section 34 - Property rights of aliens.

Alabama Constitution – Section 34: Property Rights of Aliens

Text:

"The citizens of all foreign states shall have the same rights as citizens of this state in the acquisition, possession, and enjoyment of property, except as the legislature may by law otherwise provide."

Explanation:

Section 34 of the Alabama Constitution guarantees that non-citizens (aliens)—that is, citizens of other countries—have the same property rights in Alabama as citizens of the state. These rights include:

Acquiring property

Owning/possessing property

Enjoying or using property

However, there's an important exception:
The Alabama Legislature has the authority to change or limit these rights by law. This means the legislature can pass laws restricting or modifying these rights for foreign nationals if it chooses to do so.

Example:
If there is no specific restrictive law, a foreign national can buy land or a house in Alabama just like a U.S. citizen. But if the legislature passes a law saying, for example, "non-citizens from certain countries cannot buy agricultural land," then that law would override the general right.
