CrPC Section 68

⚖️ Section 68 – Service of summons on corporate bodies and societies

Legal Text (Simplified):

When a summons is to be served on:

A company,

A corporation, or

A registered society,

It can be served by:

Sending it by registered post addressed to:

The director, manager, secretary, or other principal officer, or

The registered office of the entity.

The summons is considered duly served when it is sent this way, even if no one personally receives it.

📌 Key Points:

Applies to juristic persons (i.e., not individuals but legal entities like companies or societies).

Helps courts ensure presence of such entities through proper legal notice.

If physical service is not practical, registered post is sufficient.

🧠 Example:

If a company is being summoned in a criminal case (say, for violation of environmental laws), the court can send a summons via registered post to the company's registered office. It's considered legally served even if no one signs for it.
