 Section 503 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of India:

Section 503 - Information to the person affected by criminal intimidation

Text of Section 503 CrPC:

Whenever a Magistrate or police officer receives information that a person has committed the offence of criminal intimidation, he shall inform the person threatened of the substance of the information so far as it relates to the commission of the offence, unless the Magistrate or police officer has reasonable cause to believe that such information would endanger the life or safety of the person threatened.

Explanation:

When police or a Magistrate gets information that someone has been threatened (criminal intimidation),

They must inform the person who was threatened about the complaint or information received.

But if informing the person might put their life or safety in danger, the police or Magistrate may withhold the information.

Purpose:

To keep the victim or threatened person aware of the complaint and developments.

To protect the rights and safety of the threatened person.

Important Notes:

The communication must be balanced with caution to avoid further harm to the threatened person.

This section ensures victims are not kept in the dark about threats against them.
